We are incredibly excited to welcome a new author to The Beauty Cloud.  Introducing a lady who knows her Gelish from her acrylics… our new nail expert Seainin Hagans!

Seainin Beauty Cloud Profile Pic

Seainin qualified with Amber Rowlands Nail Education in June 2011, primarily studying acrylic nail extension but subsequently increasing her professional portfolio through courses in all aspects of nail care and design.

For the last 4 years, in between being a mum to two beautiful little girls, Seainin has worked as a nail technician. She runs her own mobile business, ‘Nails by Seainin’, the core value of which is to ‘make hands happier’. Treatments and services provided include manicures, pedicures, nail extensions, overlays, gel polishes and client specific nail care advice.

Seainin is addicted to acrylic application and the many beautiful designs achievable with this product. The range of glitter, jewels, polishes, textures and colours she has to play with only goes to fuel her addiction more – her mantra is ‘with acrylic anything is possible’! On occasions, Seanin will ask undecided clients what their favourite movies, gemstones or chocolate bars are in order to build bespoke designs around these themes – the results are fantastic.

With nail products and techniques constantly changing, Seainin is always on a mission to experiment and learn something new. She knows the importance of being able to adapt quickly and have the ability to predict up and coming trends to keep ahead of the game. She looks forward to keeping you all posted on her new discoveries in the world of nail care and design!

The Secret to Happiness

“If you can think about what you want in your mind, and make that your dominant thought, you will bring it into your life”.  “The Secret”

The Secret

Many of us chase a dream of happiness and at the same time try to counter negative things that might impinge on us achieving it.  We do this by working hard, planning ahead and tackling any obstacles in our way.  We do these things not only for ourselves and our own happiness but also for the happiness of others – the ones we love and care for.

What if I told you that the true path to achieving happiness starts from within; that we are balls of pure energy capable of creating our own miracles…

“Create your day in advance by thinking the way you want it to go, and you will create your life intentionally”. The Secret

Two years ago I heard about a book called “The Secret”, written by Rhonda Byrne.  I’d spoken to several people who had read the book and seen the movie upon which it was basedThe principle that the film and book are founded upon is that the universe is governed by a natural law – the law of attraction.  It states that we attract life experiences, situations, events, and people that “match the frequency” of our  thoughts and feelings. As such, it suggests that positive thinking and feeling positive can create life-changing results.

Gratitude bookI decided to buy The Secret Gratitude Book, designed to help you live the principles of The Secret and live the life of your dreams.  In this book I write what I am grateful for and what my dreams are. The trick is to visualize your dream and feel that you are already there! You need to change “I wish” into “I am grateful for” or “I am thankful for” or “I feel so happy being able to” and so on.

I have had the book for few months now.  However, due to the recent events, I had totally left aside thinking about myself – I lost focus on what I dream of. Instead, I have been caught up in events that have distracted me.  Thankfully my dreams are embedded in my head and heart allowing me to now reconnect and create a mental picture in my subconscious, keeping the universe alert about what I truly want.   However, you must remember to not only focus on “what you want” but also to NOT focus on “what you don’t want”.

“All stress begins with one negative thought.  Just the simple process of letting go of negative thoughts will allow your natural state of health to emerge within you”.

Whatever your dreams for happiness, I think that if we believe in them and ourselves the universe will do the rest.

Review: Fake Bake – Luxurious Golden Bronze – 60 Minutes Self Tan Liquid & Professional Mitt

Fake Bake

With so many products on the market these days, it’s becoming more and more difficult for one to stand out. This tan however, is completely unique and heads and shoulders above most products out there.

“Why?” I hear you ask. It’s all in the name…’60 Minutes Self Tan Liquid’.

I am one of the biggest lovers of fake tan going but, as anyone who has ever regularly used fake tan will know, it takes dedication – especially when you have to sleep in the stuff once a week.

We do it because we love the result.  Looking like bronzed gods/goddesses never gets old! But, imagine a world where you can sleep comfortably every single night of the week, and still rock a gorgeous tan…

Sleep with Fake Tan on

…Fake Bake have now made this possible. Once applied, this tan can be washed off after just 1 hour.  1 HOUR!

The guidelines state that 1 hour will leave you with a golden tan, 2 hours result in a bronze tan, and 3 hours develop into a dark tan. Naturally, loving a darker hue, I left this product on for 3 hours before showering.  The results were amazing. It was dark and noticeable, whilst still managing to look extremely natural, and there wasn’t a streak or patch in sight. I would have been extremely impressed if I had had the same result after 8 – 12 hours, but to have this result after just 3 hours… it’s quite simply astounding.

However, it’s not just the final result that is amazing, the product in its entirety is brilliant. From the smell to the consistency, I could not find a single fault.  It has a lovely tropical scent – an unexpected surprise. I know you only have to have this tan on for 3 hours maximum but I would have happily accepted having this pleasing smell around me for longer.  The consistency is easy to control and blend.  It is absorbed straight into the skin, making sure you’re not left with a sticky residue.  It is also free of Parabens ensuring almost everyone can use this product to achieve a beautiful, natural looking tan.

Fake Bake Velvety Pink MittFakebake also include a cute, pink, velvety self tanning mitt. These new velvety mitts are absolutely brilliant. Not only do they feel fantastic, they almost always ensure the smoothest application (assuming you’ve done your basic tanning preparation of shaving, exfoliating and moisturising dry areas)!

They are spoiling us, right!? Well, prepare yourself reader… they have also thrown in a pair of application gloves to ensure you don’t end up with those dreaded orange hands!

Final verdict: a fantastic, ground breaking product.

Dress of the Month ~ February 2014

This month’s dress might just be my favourite dress… ever! Sarah, by Charlotte Balbier, is the only dress I’ve ever actually hugged.  It is THAT pretty.

Sarah Wedding Dress, Charlotte Balbier

When we visited Charlotte’s showroom back in summer 2013 this gorgeous dress kept grabbing my attention from right across the room, we just had to buy her. Now that she has arrived into our boutique I think she is my ideal wedding dress. She combines so many elements of gorgeous detail and design that she is just about perfect!

Spotted tulle, textured flowers and lace applique sounds like it should be too much on one dress but I promise you that the result is soft, subtle and delightful.

The silhouette is a super flattering dropped waist ballgown with a shallow sweetheart neckline and a fabulous corseted bodice.

A true princess dress. I love her!

Woman Running

Running and I have a rather temperamental relationship; one which has many ups and downs through the years.

I love the great cardio workout you get from running.
I hate the beetroot face it gives me.
I love getting outdoors for a change!
I hate that awful burn in your chest when you’re trying to breathe.
I love the smug feeling you have for the rest of the day.
I hate how I look like a red sweating mess when some runners glide by me effortlessly.
I love running.
I hate running.

I used to run fairly regularly while I was at university (I used to have a lovely 5 mile route along Newcastle Quayside), but since graduating I’ve slacked off a bit.  During 2013 I managed the grand total of 2 whole outdoor runs! I often walk through St James Park in London and, after a month of saying to myself ‘ooh this would make a lovely running route’, last week I finally plucked up the courage to pull on my trainers and venture forth.  Now, I’m going to encourage some of you to do the same.  Here are some of my key pointers for pounding the pavement….

Break Out of the Gym
Treadmills are easier to run on. Fact. Treadmills are boring. Fact.

I really struggle to run indoors, mainly due to boredom. The view is always the same and it doesn’t help that you can keep looking down at that little distance tracker that only ever moves slowly onto the next 0.1mile!  It’s also much easier to think ‘I’m tired now so I’m just going to get off’.

That said, if you really can’t get outside then a treadmill is better than nothing – you might just need to throw a towel over the display screen so that you’re not constantly monitoring it.  Also, make sure to add at least a couple of presses of the incline button to make it more realistically like outside terrain.

No matter how slow

Track Your Progress
If you’re planning on training regularly, it’s good to have some way of monitoring how you’re doing. Whether that’s by time or distance, you can always push yourself to beat your personal best. If you’ve got a smartphone, there are some great apps you can have running in the background and you can choose what interaction it has with you. I love using MapMyRun as it updates me every 0.5miles with my distance, total time and split speed. It also records your workout afterwards so you can look back at it later on and even share it.

Love Your Route
As with the treadmill, if you’re running somewhere boring (think residential areas…) then it’s hard to keep interested. Have a look on Google Maps for your nearest big park/river/lake/POI and try and run around there. Your run will go much faster if you’re distracted with something more interesting to look at!

Plan Your Route
If you’re running somewhere new make sure you suss out where you’re going – having to stick a couple of miles onto your route because you get lost is no fun, especially when you’re knackered and just want to get home!

Dress for the Occasion
Think about what you’re going to wear…you don’t want that old baggy t-shirt chafing under your arms in the first half a mile. If you’re out at night, wear something reflective to stay safe. Wear suitable running trainers so you don’t cause yourself an injury – good sport stores will often provide a free service to see if you need special insoles etc.

Play That Funky Music
One of my biggest motivators is a good playlist.  Plan out the tunes you want to listen to before you go out and make sure they have a good beat. If you’re getting bored of your run you can find that the right music will help you to mix it up…slowing down for the verses and then sprint it out when the chorus kicks in. Go online for suggestions of good running playlists – my favourite tune to train to has got to be Titanium!

Just do it

 Just Do It
Ah, those infamous words from one of the high street’s favourite sports brands. Don’t over think it else you’ll never get out there. The morning is a great time to go…it’s often much quieter out and about. I normally have a good breakfast afterwards instead of before my run.  This way you can relax for the rest of the day in the knowledge that you’ve already killed your workout. If the evening is better for you, don’t worry about it all day…schedule it in and tell yourself it’s like any other appointment.

Whether you’re training for a marathon or just want to get yourself moving….stop making excuses, get off the sofa, and get outside!

Glamorous Red Carpet Hair: Get the Look

I love a bit of Red carpet celeb watching to see who gets it right and who gets it horribly wrong!

Well, this year at The Grammys it was all about glamour. Tousled waves, retro curls and sophisticated up styles were all in the mix …… lets take a look at some of my favourite looks!

Hero Product to create this look is Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray . Mist on and twist in curls then dry gently and mist a little on your hair at end to eliminate any fizz.

Taylor Swift styled up the everyday ponytail by adding movement and curl to give a more sophisticated feel.

Hero Product to recreate Taylor’s ponytail Kevin Murphy Damage Manager. Apply just before you Curl for ultimate protection from heated appliances, giving you movement and curls with no dehydration.

Rita Ora at The Grammys 2014
Rita Ora wowed us all with her vintage retro curls. She looked like the ultimate starlet with her perfectly polished waves and curls. This was one of my favourite looks of the evening.

Katy Perry looked sensational with her huge bun . Pulling her own natural hair back tightly into a bun then placing a large hairpiece which was intricately plaited then wrapped around the original bun to exaggerate the size.

No Mascara is the New Mascara for AW14 according to London Fashion Week

I had the pleasure of flying over to work at London Fashion Week at the weekend. What can I say – IT ROCKS! The level of organisation and sheer beauty was phenomenal.

One of the shows I was working on was the Bernard Chandran AW14 Show. The designs were edgy, sexy and really packed a punch. They were mostly leather which just oozed sex appeal. The collection was designed with a masculine edge which delivers an element of power to these designs. AND THE BOOTS…. Do I need to mention those boots?! #Want #Need

I was there as part of Nora Nona’s Makeup Team! Boy is she a born leader and a pleasure to work with. She is a woman who knows exactly what she wants and she has a beautiful way of making it happen.

Across the different shows which I worked on, there was one common denominator. Nude on Nude on Nude!  AW14 is all about the flawless nude skin, which also meant – NO MASCARA! I have to admit, I did have a mini heart attack at the thought of models going on the catwalk with no mascara. I am a big mascara fan, I think it really changes the whole look of your makeup when you add it in. But I have to say, the results were flawless. It takes a lot of time to create a nude makeup fit for catwalk and I admit that when it was done, I didn’t even miss or notice that the mascara wasn’t there. It was all about contouring and skin!

Another trend on the AW14 Catwalk was dewy skin and I don’t mean the odd bit of shine on the cheek bones. Light reflecting creams and facial oils were in full swing on the catwalks of London Fashion Week. I worked with Nicola Moore on the Tessa Edwards AW14 show as well and the idea was to almost make the skin look like plastic. It was glossy all over – Usually this is a big no no in terms of makeup, but on the Catwalks of London – It worked!

Tessa Edwards designs were a big contrast to those of Bernard Chandran, but stunning none the less.  From pleats, metallic’s and monochrome the Tessa Edwards AW14 show captured the biggest trends this year but with a twist.

So if you want to know what the up-coming trend in terms of Makeup for AW14 – It’s Nude on Nude! But remember, its nude with a punch! Start practicing your contouring skills now!
