sara 1Following her highly successful first solo exhibition just last year, leading fashion stylist and now established artist Sara O’Neill recently launched her second body of work to a rapidly growing fan base at Belfast’s Frame of Mine Gallery.  Inspired by fashion and literature, Sara’s collection of pictures entitled ‘Love Me to Death’ pays homage to the strength of the female character in the face of adversity.

Delighted to be returning with a whole new body of work, Sara commented, “I have adored creating every piece for this new collection.  I have experimented and morphed my love of classic and Victorian Gothic literature into a modern, fashion-led interpretation, each piece featuring a striking heroine who is living through, yet owning her individual cruel blow of ill-fate.”

Local Fashion Designer Will Preview Collection at Intimate Event

In an exclusive and intimate catwalk event in Café Vaudeville, Belfast on Monday 03 September 2012, up-and-coming fashion designer Lisa McCabe will reveal the autumn/winter 2012 collection from her ‘Nor Lisa’ label.

Since graduating from the University of Ulster in 2011, Lisa has worked tirelessly and enthusiastically on building the successful Nor Lisa label, which has already been featured on the catwalk for two seasons at Belfast FASHIONWEEK as well as being worn on the red carpet by singing sensation Niamh Perry and modelled by Britain’s Next Top Model finalist Diona Doherty. As well as designing and making the clothes in the collection, Lisa often designs the prints and hand prints many of the fabrics herself, so no two pieces of printed fabric clothing are the same.

The young Fermanagh-born lady is ambitious about furthering the success of her brand and new collections going forward. “The fashion industry in Northern Ireland is certainly one that’s growing rapidly and it’s a great time for young designers like me to be making the most of it.”

Speaking specifically about the new collection, Lisa describes this season’s collection as luxurious and exclusive, and she was inspired by rich country side manors, elegant clothing and anti-hunting.   Working very hard Lisa states:  “Like all designers, I work months in advance of each new season to research the upcoming trends and of course to create my own. It’s great to have reached the point where I am ready to launch the autumn/winter range which I think is one of my most adventurous to date. I’ll be a little nervous on the evening but I’ll mostly be excited to hear the reactions of my supporters.”

Audiences should expect to see previews of the 20-piece-strong collection boasting jewel colours highlighted with golds and luxurious fabrics with elements of lace which will be perfectly complimented by the boudoir-esque setting of Café Vaudevile. Local jewellery brand Melanie Bond will complement the fashion pieces on the catwalk with the latest statement necklaces and arm wear. Hairdresser Lee Stinton will work alongside Make-up Artist Nuala Campbell to complete the models’ looks.

With former Big Brother contestant Orlaith McAlistair as the host, DJ Gavin Annon on the decks and recent Britain’s Next Top Model finalist Diona Doherty on the catwalk and fronting the new collection, the event is hotting up to be one of the top VIP events of the year.

Tickets for the Nor Lisa AW12 Collection Preview which takes place at 7pm on Monday 3rd September are £12.50 and available to buy from www.nor-lisa.com or by emailing norlisafashion@gmail.com. Ticket price includes a West Coast Cooler reception and complimentary bespoke Nor Lisa inspired Sugar Room Cupcakes.

Print Frenzy for S/S 2012

Prints are always going to be on trend each season. The question is, what kind of prints are on trend this season?  From washy pastel light tones to clashing bold prints, they have been all over the runway for S/S 2012.

One of my all time favourite designers Mary Katrantzou who really stood out amongst the crowd this season with their strong busy unique prints.  I loved how the variety of prints used on one garment really contrasted against the others, creating quite a unique look. However, they still managed to keep the garments wearable with their use of color and simple tailoring.  Illustrations used on the garments included metal drums, bolts, car parts and tin cans met cherry blossoms, fields of flowers, coral and other marine life – all on a single dress.
Going the other way, there where some really beautiful romantic pastel prints showcased by designer Versace.  I am an enormous fan of Versace they couldn’t go wrong in my book.  Spring/Summer 2012 for them, showed a gentler side to their brand, with soft sweet pastel shades mixed with very elegant ladylike silhouettes, they‘ve got it right.  The illustrations used on the actual prints where very summery indeed, containing starfish and sea-shell embellishments alongside the studded seahorse shapes are enough to drive anyone to the poolside or beach.

Taking inspiration from the print trend I produced my S/S scarf collection. In keeping with my line of 1940‘s inspired dresses, I added my signature spitfire design, mixing my print with the bright colours I love to use and are right on trend. I also used bright florals for a beautiful summery look that will update any look and match in with any outfit with their variety of colours as well as being totally unique!

‘Planely Peculiar’

‘Planely Peculiar’ is the latest Spring / Summer collection by Fashion Designer Nor Lisa. I had the pleasure of being involved in the photo-shoot to capture the essence of the 1940’s inspired print collection which definitely captures your eyes with its beautiful mix of bright and pastel colours.

I worked with both Lisa McCabe (designer behind Nor Lisa) and extremely talented photographer Przemek Czaicki of Creative Distortion Photography for Nor Lisa’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection and was so excited to get back out there with them again for this new collection.

The Beauty Cloud caught up with Makeup Artist Nuala Campbell, here is what she had to say about the latest look for Nor Lisa S/S 2012; “For the make-up in this photo-shoot, it was so important to bring out all the bright colours in the clothes and scarves. I had search high and low for lip glosses coloured and pigmented enough to stand out, but failed. Therefore I set about creating my own. Using clear gloss and my never ending pigment case I mixed up 6 of my own very bright and colourful lip glosses. My idea for the look for this shoot was for the hair and makeup to look artificial – no naturals to be found here! I think we captured it!”

A very welcome addition to the team this season was renowned session stylist Gillian Douglas-Rea. The hair and wigs in this photo-shoot really set the whole look off.

The photo-shoot took place at Filthy McNasty’s in Belfast – It was the perfect backdrop with such elaborate colours and focus points to go along side the gorgeous pieces from the Nor Lisa S/S 2012 collection.

Here are some of the official photos from the photo-shoot. Watch out for Nor Lisa’s Spring/Summer collection making an appearance at the next Belfast Fashion Week taking place March 14-18. (For tickets to Belfast Fashion Week, please contact the Belfast Welcome Centre on 028 9024 6609)
