I don’t know about you guys but I am totally addicted to Instagram. Every chance I get I am on there! It doesn’t matter where I am; whether it is in the dentist’s waiting room or lying in bed at night (my boyfriend always shouts at me for my late night insta-creeping… oops!) – I just can’t help myself from refreshing my Instagram feed.
I especially love the pictures that ‘Instagramer’s’ share of their fave new fashion trends, beauty buys and their fresh new mani’s and pedi’s.
When I am stuck for artistic inspiration I can get some great ideas for nail art simply at the swipe of a finger.
Nail art has become a big part of how celebrities and style icons express themselves, with new ideas and trends constantly emerging. No outfit is complete these days without a striking manicure.
Some fashionista’s in particular are paving the way in the manicure-style-stakes. I love to see what they’re wearing on their nails just as much as what they are wearing on their gloriously groomed & toned celebrity bodies.
So, I thought I would start documenting my findings for you guys to have a nosy at… just like a nail tech version of David Attenborough I suppose…
My ultimate bohemian nail art crush is Spingbreaker’s actress Vanessa Hudgens. I adore her hippy-chic fashion sense and the way she is always pushing boundaries and trying new things. I love checking her Instagram to get a look at her latest manicure – always guaranteed to be super snazzy.
Gel and acrylic are like clear cement – you can encase anything small enough within them from tiny little pictures, lace, glitter, feathers, etc. The possibilities are endless for anyone brave enough.
I know for sure that I couldn’t cope with such long extensions on my own hands on a day-to-day basis – due to my job and the fact that I struggle to get my face cream out of its jar when my nails are even a tiny bit long – but I would certainly love to recreate a few of Vanessa’s recent nail art escapades.
Each of the more extravagant sets of nails can take anywhere up to 3hours (or more) to complete by a super talented nail artist with an incredibly steady hand. Vanessa is a big fan of two nail techs in particular, Britney Tokyo and Naomi Yasuda.
Both of these amazingly talented artists were born in Japan and now work between New York and California. Between the pair of them they have styled more sets of nails for various different major celebs than I have had hot dinners… They are living the Nail Tech dream!
You can find me on my own personal Instagram at www.instagram.com/lawesh. Feel free to let me know of any hot new nail trends you have spotted on Instagram or just drop by to say hello.

The sun is out and spirits are high. Many of us are spring cleaning our houses and wardrobes in some cases. With all this change we sometimes feel our image could do with a spruce up too. Well, I have a suggestion which doesn’t require anything too drastic – in one word it’s ‘fringe’!
The first fringe in my spotlight is the long fringe. This is great for mid length and longer hair styles and those with heart shaped faces. Its an easy casual fringe to wear either pushed to the side or worn in a centre parting, pushed back and then allowed to fall naturally and secured in place with a light spritz of hairspray. This is a low commitment, low maintenance fringe – perfect for hair dresser shy people!
Next up – the soft full fringe. This fringe is ideal for long, medium length hair and select shorter length styles. This fringe is perfect for oval, heart and square shaped faces. Top tip for this fringe is to use a large round brush when blow drying it to give it fullness. When dry, give it a light shake to tousle it and make it ‘bitty’ looking – softening the look. This is a medium commitment fringe needing maintenance every 8-10 weeks.
If you are looking to make a strong statement then the blunt fringe is for you. When done well this fringe is nothing short of stunning. It can frame any oval face but some round faces can carry it effortlessly too! It is the focal point of a haircut and can vary widely in length depending on how brave you are. Blunt fringes are, however, high maintenance and need cutting every 4-6 weeks to retain its bluntness.
To add definition to your face shape & cheek bones try the side fringe. It gives the impression of a longer face, making it most compatible with a round face type. This is a great way to soften long and medium length hairstyles but works effectively with short styles too. This fringe requires a medium commitment and is an easy going little twist to a hair cut.
Don’t stand on the fringe, jump in and give it a go!!
As Autumn / Winter approaches, not only will we want to warm up our homes, we want to warm up our skin tones as well. One of the best ways to do this is by changing our hair colour. Don’t panic! It can be a subtle as a tonal change or as dramatic as a total colour choice.
Here are my predictions on hot colour trends this upcoming season !
Light blondes have gone stark and slightly colourless in sun this glorious summer but no need to darken it down just soften and warm it up by the injection of soft buttery blonde tones. Add this in pieces through your hair if your feeling nervous and you will still keep your light brightness it just melts warmth into the hair giving shine and a healthy glow.
For the more adventurous blondes, this seasons trend is colouring in a slightly darker hue at the roots, blending into glistening honey tones in the ends. Nicole Ritchie wears this technique perfectly, giving an effortless natural feel!
We are looking at deep rich velvety Browns with accent tones of auburn. This gives the hair a deep gloss with warm lustrous tones that would grace any red carpet comfortably.
Red is very much back in trend thanks to celebs like Paloma Faith! For us red heads this season we can go two ways the first is a softer natural tonal injection of luxurious Tuscan tones giving you an earthy warm feel. This will give your colour that boost back to life it needs to gleam. If your red is loud and proud, revitalise your colour with vibrant fiery tones to bring your red ablaze!
With these predictions you can warm up your life in more ways than one !!!!
