The Beauty Cloud’s Guide to Festival Hair

Fesitval Season can be a tricky one for us ladies when it comes to keeping those tresses tamed, so I’ve come up with an easy 4-Day guide to easy-to-manage hairstyles to ensure you stay looking gorgeous the whole time.

DAY ONE

Festival Hair says one thing to me Bohemian Glamour!!

4 Day Festival Hair Guide, House of Fraser, Hair Care, Products Aveda, Tierry Mugler, Chloe Anderson, JW Anderson, Belfast, Ireland, Hair, Beauty, Style

Curls and waves created by spritzing on AVEDA ‘BE CURLY’ ENHANCING SPRAY, then curling by patting GHD‘s over pin-curls formed by wrapping hair around 3-4 fingers giving unique curls and waves of all sizes and shapes. By using the ‘Be Curly’ and GHD’s this will give curls that will last and drop into soft waves in 3-4 days.

DAY TWO

Curls have dropped and dressed through naturally giving tousled informal curls and waves. If you have any frizzing, 2-3 spritz of Be Curly Spray again will tame it down.

Lift the front of your brow with a plait creating a practical but kooky twist to the look.

DAY THREE

4 Day Festival Hair Guide, House of Fraser, Hair Care, Products Aveda, Tierry Mugler, Chloe Anderson, JW Anderson, Belfast, Ireland, Hair, Beauty, Style

By now the curls have relaxed into irregular waves. Scoop the hair back off your face with two effortless plaits joining into one creating some boho chic.

If our festival babes are feeling a tad un-fresh a mist of TIERRY MULGER ANGEL PERFUMING HAIR MIST will have you feeling as fresh as a daisy!

 DAY FOUR

4 Day Festival Hair Guide, House of Fraser, Hair Care, Products Aveda, Tierry Mugler, Chloe Anderson, JW Anderson, Belfast, Ireland, Hair, Beauty, Style

Continuing on with some bang on-trend plaits simply just pull hair all to one side, letting shorter layers drop softly then plait loosely into a two-strand plait creating a fishtail, giving a Boho finale to our festival style!!

No Need for Shampoo!

I’m a big lover of dry shampoo, but I have two major hang-ups about them. They are the smell and the dusty residue left behind on the hair.

When Lush’s No Drought came into my hands I thought ‘Here we go again’, but I can’t contain it anymore No Drought is AMAZZZZZZING!!

It absorbs all moisture and natural oils all while leaving no dusty remains, in-fact a lot of times leaving the hair looking shiny and healthy, which we all know lush-no-drought-dry-shampoo, fesitval, fun, party, summer, pick, hairdoesn’t usually happen with regular Dry Shampoo’s.

Lime and Grapefruit extracts not only make the powder smell fresh but also deodorise the hair at the same time – What more would you need from a dry shampoo?

So I know my session bag will now only have Lush’s No Drought Dry Shampoo in it.

Who needs water and shampoo everyday we got No Drought !!

Romancing the Tresses

Valentines Day is a upon us and we all want to look stunning for our other halves, so I have jotted down a few quick tips on how to romance up your hair !!!

1. Keep it soft – Movie Romantic hair is soft and touchable. So my top tip to achieve this is use light weight products but go gently on the amount you use.

2. Wispy – Our Hollywood Heroine always has hair tumbling and blowing around her face, so if your pinning your hair up or back drop some tendrils down around your face for that leading lady feel.

3. Waves & Curls – These are almost always a must for a soft romantic feel. The movement softens the texture of the hair, giving it that effortless natural feminine look.

Kylie Minogue gracing the Red Carpet in Vintage Elegance

Our first look has a vintage feel to it. This look has been dominating the fashion world all year. Kylie wears it perfectly. It’s got a vintage feel but is still modern and flattering.

Here is how to pull it off with ease:

  1. Apply GHD Style Curl Hold Spray over clean dry hair.
  2. In section’s of approx 1 inch square curl hair with GHD’s, applying Curl hold to each section giving the curl hold and heat protection.
  3. When all curled leave hair for 5-10 minutes to cool down, fixing in the curl so it will hold the curl longer.
  4. Thoroughly brush the hair thorough with a natural bristle brush like Denman Grooming Brush, the natural boar bristle will separate the hair and soften the curl to a vintage wave.
  5. When brushing waves twist ends with a flick of your fingers to turn in and fall beautifully.
  6. A small mist of hairspray at this point will seal in your style.
  7. To continue with the vintage feel either tuck on side behind the ear or pin back with a glittery slide and your ready to rock n roll and party night !

Look two is being sported by Girls Aloud in their latest video. It’s the Top Knot, simple but extremely effective and spot on trend!

Give this popular and easy look a try, here’s how:

  1. On clean dry hair mist GHD Heat protect and straighten, this will make it so much easier to get it up with a sleek finish.
  2. Pull hair into a high ponytail placing the ponytail on the top of your head in front of the crown area.
  3. To achieve perfectly sleek side areas again I would recommend a natural boar  bristle brush like the Denman Grooming Brush as mentioned before.
  4. Once ponytail is in place, lightly backcomb it with the brush to give a little bulk  to hair, then brush lightly smoothing the hair but not removing all the backcombing.
  5. Wrap the hair around the ponytail till only a little left with these ends tuck them under wrapped hair and secure with a kirby clip or two.
  6. Mist with hairspray, then follow with GHD Style Final Shine Spray for instant all over shine.

The final look is ideal for afternoon office parties or Christmas day. Its a stylish soft ponytail. Olivia Palermo graced the red carpet with it making casual chic.

Stroll through this hair do with the following instructions:

  1. Shampoo and towel dry your hair.
  2. Apply GHD Style Root Lift Spray, giving volume and heat protection.
  3. Turn your head upside down and dry hair until its at about 90% dry then flip head up and finish drying smoothing the ends through.
  4. Place into a parting, any parting will work with this style.
  5. Keeping all the volume grab the hair loosely at one side , secure with an elastic. Make sure not to put the band up near the head keep it loose so the hair drapes over the selected shoulder.
  6. Push fingers in hair at root loosing hair up even more around the head area.
  7. Mist with hairspray and GHD Final Shine and your ready to go out and shine !!

So now your ready to go out a show off some Christmas Chic !!

Wrap up Warm this Winter!

Its that time of year again, it’s become cold and frosty. So on go the hats, hoods and heating and unfortunately our hair suffers. It makes hair feel on the tired side and it loses it’s sparkle.  Though fear not, we are going to bring back the gleam before your Christmas party season starts!!

The first type of hair with lack of condition is ‘de-moisturized’ type , this is generally dull or brittle long hair, curly hair and hair which has been exposed to the elements. Maybe even with a bit of mechanical damage i.e. dryer, straighteners. Lets face it, that sounds like most of us !!

The ultimate treatment which I love for this type of hair, is KMS Moist Repair Treatment. The treatment absorbs deeply into the hair to rebuild and strengthen the hair with ingredients like Panthenol which injects strength straight into the hair and Aloe Vanilla nourishing and hydrating the hair, you will be left with hair feeling strong, healthy, moisturised and  glossy !!

Ok relax! That’s the science bit over, now how to get the best results from it !

  1. Pre Shampoo hair with KMS Moist Repair Shampoo
  2. Towel dry hair apply a walnut size of Kms Moist Repair Treatment
  3. Wrap  cling film around the head to seal the hair
  4. Lie in a hot bath , if you can’t  saturate a towel in hot water , wring out and wrap round head over cling film to trap in steam.
  5. Rinse Thoroughly
  6. Style as normal.

The second type of lack of condition is delving a little bit deeper and is usually anyone with  heavily coloured hair, chemical straightened or any technical service in their hair. My hero product for this is Kevin Murphy Born Again. The ingredients are so tiny they pass into the internal structure of your hair infusing essential oils in at the core. Not only do they work instantly but they remain in the hair and are reactivated by sunlight and air. Born Again is packed full of antioxidants to stop further damage and help maintain balance to the hair and scalp. It will leave your hair energized, sleek, tamed, regenerated and repaired.

Now how to get that radiance back into your hair !

  1. Pre shampoo with Born.Again Wash
  2. Towel dry hair apply a walnut size of Born .Again
  3. Wrap in cling film sealing in all the hair
  4. Lie in a steamy bath unwinding
  5. Born.Again can be left on for up to 20mins, just enough time so soak the stresses of the world away.
  6. Rinse well
  7. Style as normal

Now you know how  get your lustre back for Christmas by wrapping your hair up warm!

Dress of the Month ~ October

This month my favourite gown is the stunning Veronica!

Lace Bridal Gown Veronica Natalie Abuscow Nuala Campbell Castle Ward Gillian Douglas Rea Button Detail Satin Layer

From the slim silhouette to the delicate cap sleeves this gown screams glamorous sophistication! The gown features an un-beaded lace that is luxurious and soft, over a slinky satin layer which helps the gown to move fluidly. Right now she is my favourite because of the neckline and the gorgeous key hole cut out back detail. I also love it because of the gorgeous traditional buttons – I love gowns that really make a feature of the fastenings and these buttons at both the back of the neckline and down the back really make a gorgeous statement.

Lace Bridal Gown Veronica Natalie Abuscow Nuala Campbell Castle Ward Gillian Douglas Rea Button Detail Satin Layer

The most unique element of this gorgeous gown is that it’s really two dresses in one –  the slinky satin under-layer is completely separate from the lace gown. The whole idea is that you wear the lace look for your ceremony and then remove the top layer to reveal a very glossy glamorous slinky gown for your evening reception.

This is a gown that is very unforgiving on your figure. Because it is unstructured it means you need to be very content with your curves and not be self conscious about any tummy bulge or wobbly thighs. The sleeve shape also means that you need to be pretty happy with your arms. It is a gorgeous gown on athletic or slim body types but with the addition of some waist definition in the form of a belt this gown transforms and works really well for curvier girls too.

It’s Cold out there, but it’s Warm in Hair!

Autumn is here already! Crisp cold mornings, darker evenings and my favourite of the beautiful changes, is the colours of the trees.

When I look at all the shades in the leaves, I get so inspired to change my own hair colour. I’m sure there are a few of you feel the same.

In this blog, I’m going to give you a few hints and tips to pick the perfect Autumn colour for you.

 ‘Candy Apple’

Nicole Richie

Blonde is bright and glamorous, but it can start to look tired and dry at this time of year, especially as our skin tones get a little paler with our lack of sunshine. You can bring your blonde back to life by injecting some warmth into your hair, which in turn will reflect warm tones onto your face as well. Most blonde’s fear this, as they are scared of their hair turning dark or heavily golden – but fear not! You can achieve the subtle warmth by introducing soft lights through your hair, this way you will still retain the brightness with soft candy tone !

‘Pumpkin Copper’

Florence Welsh

Copper has lost all its stigma since celebrities like Paloma Faith and Florence Welsh are rocking it! As a Copper (aka Ginger), I’ve been waiting for this all my life, Ginger is trendy !! Copper tones can range from a soft strawberry Blonde, like Nicole Kidman to the fiery Copper of Florence Welsh. As long as you’ve got the right skin tone, then Copper in all its shades can look so striking. If you have lighter skin tones you are perfect for Copper. Blue or Green eyes are fantastic sitting along-side a warm Conker Copper. Just one look in the mirror and your hair will warm you right to the core !

‘Hot Chocolate’

Eva Longoria

If you’re  maybe a little colour shy and like to embrace the more natural tones, why not add in some warmth to your brown hair. Bring it to life and give it some luster while its blowing in the wind by adding some sumptuous autumn tones. This can really bring your hair to life, making it glossy, rich and healthy, while leaving you feeling and looking glamorous, even on the coldest of days!

There is no excuse – just because the days are dull and drab doesn’t mean that your hair has to be!
