NY Fashion Week Catwalk Nails

We have now officially entered into autumn, my favourite season. I love the transition from summer dresses and denim shorts to snuggly knitwear and oodles and oodles of layers along with beautiful soft leather boots teamed with cosy snoods as the weather begins to get colder and colder.

As the colours of the leaves on the trees change so then must the colour of our beloved manicures.  Time to say goodbye to the pops of neon, pastel tones and my favourite white manicures – it is time to make way for some new deeper and richer shades of polish and gel.

NY Fashion Week Nail Trends: Rodarte & Helmut Lang

New York Fashion Week is a trustworthy source to look to when deciding what colours to revamp your nails with.  This year we saw an influx of barely there pinks and nudes on many runways from Oscar De La Renta and Carolina Herrera to Kate Spade – super chic.  No matter what the season I always have a few nudes in stock for my clients to choose from as they are always in demand.

NY Fashion Week Nail Trends: Zimmerman, Alexandre Herchcovitch and Kenneth Cole

As always Reds and Burgundys featured heavily on the catwalks in true autumn style.  I think the deep reds are my favourite colours for autumn especially on almond shaped nails – It is just such a classic style along with the fact it matches all skin tones, what’s not to love?!

NY Fashion Week Nail Trends: DKNY

A very welcome addition to my wardrobe of nail polishes and gels for autumn 2014 will be Grey. Obviously the designers showcasing at New York Fashion Week share my love for all things grey – every shade was seen on the runways.

NY Fashion Week Nail Trends: Vera Wang and Badgley Mischka

It doesn’t matter whether you prefer metallic or matte shades of grey, everything goes!  Grey is a lovely alternative to summer white manicures or black winter manicures, it’s somewhere just in between.

NY Fashion Week Nail Trends: Tadashi Shoji

The final major colour scheme seen on the catwalks in New York was full throttle heavy metal – from silver tips to all out rose gold, every shade and tone was being showcased.

For those of you who like something a little bit quirky on your nails this is the style for you. Get creative and paint a natural nude on your nail plate and finish the look off with a slick of gold along the tips – perfect for a night out with the girls.

The best bit about this look is when the tip of your nails begin to chip you can simply patch it up with a dot of the metallic polish you used and due to the nature of the metallic shades you won’t be able to see where it has been repaired once your top coat has been applied.

NY Fashion Week Nail Trends: Mara Hoffman and Dannijo

I have currently got a Bio Sculpture gel overlay on my nails in one of their most popular colours – #74 Real Red – but now I can’t wait to get inventive and make some metallic creations! It’s all about having fun with your style, so don’t be afraid to have a play with your nail polishes to create something new.

Warm up your life with these Autumn / Winter 2013 Hair Trends

As Autumn / Winter approaches, not only will we want to warm up our homes, we want to warm up our skin tones as well. One of the best ways to do this is by changing our hair colour. Don’t panic! It can be a subtle as a tonal change or as dramatic as a total colour choice.

Here are my predictions on hot colour trends this upcoming season !

Blondes

1a

Light blondes have gone stark and slightly colourless in sun this glorious summer but no need to darken it down just soften and warm it up by the injection of soft buttery blonde tones. Add this in pieces through your hair if your feeling nervous and you will still keep your light brightness it just melts warmth into the hair giving shine and a healthy glow.

For the more adventurous blondes, this seasons trend is colouring in a slightly darker hue at the roots, blending into glistening honey tones in the ends. Nicole Ritchie wears this technique perfectly, giving an effortless natural feel!

Brunette

Kate Middleton Hair

We are looking at deep rich velvety Browns with accent tones of auburn. This gives the hair a deep gloss with warm lustrous tones that would grace any red carpet comfortably.

Red Heads

Celebrity Hair

Red is very much back in trend thanks to celebs like Paloma Faith! For us red heads this season we can go two ways the first is a softer natural tonal injection of luxurious Tuscan tones giving you an earthy warm feel. This will give your colour that boost back to life it needs to gleam. If your red is loud and proud, revitalise your colour with vibrant fiery tones to bring your red ablaze!

With these predictions you can warm up your life in more ways than one !!!!

A Valentine’s Day Wedding, Romantic? or not?

I know I’m surrounded by romance all year long, but there is something just so special about Valentines Day! I love all the excitement and extra energy of our girls whose weddings are this week and I look forward to hearing all about the romantic proposals on Valentines Day.

Maybe it’s because my mum and dad were married on February 14th? I see how special their anniversary is and I also love to see them reminisce about their wedding day 32 years ago. My mums wedding dress was, to me, the epitome of a romantic wedding dress, all soft pretty lace and covered up! Even though my mums says she hates its very typical 1981 style, I know she loves it! red-and-white-valentines-centerpiece-wedding

I love that in her weddings pic’s the snow is at her feet, yet she has the most stunning bright blue sky behind her! That’s one of the best things about the weather at this time of year – it really could go either way. It’s usually very wet and windy so proper shoes and a little jacket are definitely required, but you could  wake up to an amazing spring day.

The choice of what to wear for your Valentines wedding of course must take into account the cold, but also colour! I prefer the lighter ivory tones at this time of year, I just feel that the brightness of the dress will compensate for how grey and dull the light can be. The colour theme or the bridesmaids dresses also require a bit more consideration. Will you embrace the Valentines theme and chose an alternative to the traditional claret red? I almost think it would be a shame not to have your girls in beautiful red dresses!

But a Valentines wedding doesn’t have to be tacky or gimmicky. Just avoid the pound shop plastic hearts and you’ll be half way there!  You shouldn’t be afraid to invest a bit more time, effort and maybe money into the look of your wedding beyond the outfits. Keep the stationery classy and elegant, and if you want to incorporate the heart motif just make sure it looks sophisticated and not cartoony. As for room decor it’s hard to beat the classic red rose and lots of candles or fairy lights!

valentines, wedding, invites

I asked around for opinions on a Valentines wedding and the consensus from the girls was that it is ultimately the most romantic time to get married, but the guys typically mentioned that it would make remembering their anniversary easy!

If you have been to or are planning your very own Valentines wedding I’d love to hear about it!
